Manama: The Bahrain Basketball Association has announced the formation of a new national 3x3 basketball team, named Al Sayf, to compete in the prestigious FIBA 3x3 World Tour. This strategic initiative is intended to advance the development of 3x3 basketball in the Kingdom of Bahrain and to boost its status on both regional and international platforms.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's 3x3 basketball scene has experienced significant growth, with the nation's Asian ranking climbing to 17th as of June. This improvement is largely credited to the impressive performances by the Al Riffa team in various international competitions and the introduction of the Bahrain 3x3 Summer Open. This tournament, running until August, provides a coveted qualification spot for the World Tour.
The newly formed Al Sayf team will consist solely of Bahraini players and staff members. The team is scheduled to participate in a foreign training camp to ensure adequate preparation for upcoming global competitions. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at establishing Bahrain as a premier destination for 3x3 basketball in the Gulf region and Asia, while also continuing to climb the international rankings.
The FIBA 3x3 World Tour represents the pinnacle of global competition for professional 3x3 teams. This annual event is conducted across multiple continents and has significantly contributed to the sport's rising popularity worldwide.
