Bahrain Engages in PUIC Conference in Indonesia

Jakarta: The Parliamentary Division of the Kingdom of Bahrain is actively participating in the 19th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), with Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, at the helm.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the conference and its related meetings are being hosted in the Republic of Indonesia from May 12 to 15. The Bahraini delegation is set to make an official visit to the Indonesian Parliament, where they will engage in a joint session and hold meetings aimed at bolstering Islamic parliamentary cooperation. These efforts are also geared toward strengthening the ties between Bahrain and Indonesia, as well as exchanging legislative expertise, in alignment with the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The conference agenda is comprehensive, featuring meetings of the standing committees, the Conference of Muslim Women Parliamentarians, the Association of Secretaries General, the Executive Committee, and consultative sessions of parliamentary groups. It includes committee meetings with a focus on Palestine, Cultural and Legal Affairs, Dialogue among Civilisations and Religions, Economic Affairs and Environment, Political Affairs and Foreign Relations, and Human Rights, Women and Family Affairs. The event will culminate with the adoption of the Jakarta Declaration.

Also on the conference itinerary is the election of two Vice Presidents representing the Arab and African groups. Participants will adopt the Secretary General's report, hear statements from heads of delegations and observers, review the 26th session of the General Committee, approve committee reports and draft resolutions, make nominations to committee memberships, confirm the date for the 20th session to be held in Tunisia, and adopt the final report.
