Accra:Dr. Samia Bahram, Assistant Undersecretary of Public Health at the Ministry of Health, has highlighted Bahrain's commitment to enhancing immunization programs and preventive healthcare services for all age groups.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Bahram made these remarks during a session titled "Advancing Adult Immunisation for Healthy Ageing and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Prevention in the Eastern Mediterranean Region Leveraging Gulf Leadership to Accelerate Regional Action." This session was organized by the Eastern Mediterranean NCDs Alliance on the sidelines of the 73rd session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee, which included participants from across the region.
Dr. Bahram emphasized the need to expand immunization efforts, particularly for older adults and those with NCDs, to prevent health complications and promote healthy ageing. She noted that Bahrain has maintained an immunization coverage rate exceeding 95% under its national immunization schedule for nearly 30 years, has been polio-free since 1994, and has upheld its measles and rubella elimination status since 2019.
She also mentioned that the national program offers lifelong immunization services through primary healthcare facilities, including chronic disease clinics, maternal care, premarital screening services, and recommended vaccinations for travelers. Dr. Bahram highlighted the role of mobile immunization units in improving vaccine access for various societal segments, particularly the elderly, thereby enhancing disease prevention and supporting community health.
