Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain has expressed strong condemnation of the hijacking of an oil tanker in Yemeni territorial waters. The tanker, carrying eight Egyptian sailors, was forced into Somali territorial waters near the Puntland region. Bahrain described the incident as a violation of international law, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions related to maritime security and combating piracy.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain affirmed its full solidarity with Egypt, including its leadership, government, and people. The ministry supports all legitimate measures taken to ensure the safety of the Egyptian sailors and secure their immediate release.
The Ministry also called on the international community and relevant authorities to take urgent and coordinated action to resolve the situation. This includes securing the immediate and safe return of the sailors to their families and bringing the perpetrators to justice under international law. The ministry emphasized the importance of reinforcing maritime security and safety, protecting civilians, and supporting regional and international peace and stability.
