Bahrain Concludes Asian Games Campaign with Historic Handball Gold and 22 Medals

Aichi-Nagoya:Bahrain The Kingdom of Bahrain wrapped up its participation in the 20th Asian Games, held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with a total of 22 medals, including 11 gold, five silver, and six bronze. The Games, which began on September 19, are scheduled to conclude on October 4. According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's athletes excelled across various sports, with athletics being the standout category. The athletes secured 13 medals in athletics alone, comprising nine gold, two silver, and two bronze. This performance marks one of Bahrain's most notable achievements in the sport at the Asian Games. A significant milestone was achieved by Bahrain’s men's national handball team, which claimed its first-ever gold medal in Asian Games history by narrowly defeating Qatar 33-32 in the final. This victory is historic for the team, as it was their third consecutive appearance in the finals. In athletics, standout performances included Bahraini runner Winfred Yavi, who won multiple gold medals, and Birhanu Bal ew, who claimed gold in the men's 5,000 meters. Other medals in athletics were achieved in track events and relay races, significantly contributing to Bahrain's medal tally. Bahrain also saw success in swimming, with Mikhail Arkhangelsky winning gold in the men's 50-meter butterfly event. The mixed martial arts competitions added two silver medals to Bahrain's accomplishments. In weightlifting, Ingrid Grueso reached the podium, while Alina Marushchak secured a silver medal in the 86kg category, missing gold by just one kilogram. Gor Minasyan added a bronze in the over 110kg category. In judo, Sukhrob Boqiev earned a bronze medal in the under 66kg category. Bahrain's wrestling achievements were capped by Shamil Sharipov's bronze in the 125kg category, following a decisive 9-0 victory in the bronze medal contest. Bahrain's overall medal haul demonstrated the Kingdom's capabilities across a variety of team and individual sports, solidifying its presence at the continental sporting event.
