Manama:Amna Hamad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment, led a virtual meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) undersecretaries responsible for environmental affairs. This meeting was part of Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the Supreme Council of the GCC.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Rumaihi praised the efforts of GCC member states during the current session and acknowledged the significant role of the GCC General Secretariat and its personnel in preparing for the meeting. Their contributions have been vital in implementing the Council's decisions, plans, and programs that enhance joint GCC action.
She reiterated Bahrain's dedication to strengthening cooperation, aligning visions, and advancing integration among GCC countries in environmental areas. Al Rumaihi emphasized the importance of the meeting's agenda items, which focus on preserving ecosystems, protecting natural resources, and reducing pollution.
The meeting addressed several environmental issues, including operational plans for specialized environmental committees, the Middle East Green Initiative, the GCC Environmental Portal, the Gulf Environmental Performance Index, and agreements related to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the conservation of wildlife and natural habitats within the GCC. Other topics aimed at enhancing cooperation and alignment in sustainable development were also reviewed.
