New york: In its capacity as President of the United Nations Security Council for April, the Kingdom of Bahrain chaired a Security Council meeting, which discussed the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaiei, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York. Briefings were delivered by Marko uric, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia; Glauk Konjufca, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo; and Peter Due, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK.
Ambassador Al Rowaiei commended all constructive initiatives aimed at strengthening ties, including among countries in the Western Balkans. He also welcomed the formation of the Government of Kosovo in February 2026, noting that sustained political stability is essential to creating favourable conditions for maintaining security and stability and advancing development and prosperity efforts.
He focused on three key aspects in his statement, including calling on both Serbia and Kosovo to engage constructively and in good faith in the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue facilitated by the European Union. He also welcomed the convening of a trilateral meeting between Serbia, Kosovo, and the European Union, underscoring Bahrain's emphasis on prioritising dialogue and diplomacy and making use of available opportunities.
Ambassador Al Rowaiei commended the cooperation between the Kosovar and Serbian authorities in efforts to locate 1,582 persons missing following the events of 1998-1999 in Kosovo. He highlighted Bahrain's position on the importance of strengthening trust and promoting the values of tolerance and coexistence between the two countries.
He reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain's support for strengthening ties between Kosovo and Serbia and advancing cooperation between them, as well as the importance of reaching mutual understandings and agreements that contribute to maintaining security and stability in the Western Balkans region.
