Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, announced the Kingdom of Bahrain's support for Adel Darwish's candidacy for the post of Deputy Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister stated that the nomination demonstrates Bahrain's commitment to enhancing its presence in international forums and endorsing national competencies for leadership roles in global organizations. He underlined Bahrain's confidence in its national expertise and their potential to contribute to global digital transformation and to the ITU's strategic direction, ensuring its continued mission to connect the world through secure, sustainable, and inclusive technologies.
Adel Darwish holds a professional background in digital policy and telecommunications regulation, including his current position as Director of the ITU's Regional Office for the Arab States. His candidacy receives support from the Gulf Cooperation Council and other Arab countries. He aims to assist the ITU in adapting to developments of the digital era and promoting inclusive, sustainable digital economies through enhanced international cooperation.
