London: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, met with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, at the UK Parliament in London to agree on a new framework for parliamentary cooperation.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was attended by Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom. Al Musallam emphasized that the strategic relations between Bahrain and the United Kingdom serve as a global model of cooperation and alliance, supported by over two centuries of coordination. He highlighted the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Majesty King Charles III in strengthening these ties.
Al Musallam praised the growing cooperation in key sectors such as economy, investment, security, and technology, facilitated by initiatives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He noted Bahrain's commitment to enacting laws that promote sustainable development and enhance its status as a stable global financial hub.
Bahrain's parliamentary diplomacy, following the foreign policy approach of His Majesty the King, focuses on moderation and balance, promoting peace and tolerance. This approach underscores Bahrain's identity as a nation of coexistence and respect for human rights, aiming for lasting peace in the Middle East and worldwide.
The two sides discussed His Majesty the King's initiative for an international peace conference on the Middle East, agreeing on its importance amidst global challenges. They emphasized the need for joint international action to foster dialogue and peaceful resolutions, ensuring stability and prosperity.
The speakers also welcomed Bahrain's election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, recognizing its commitment to dialogue and global peace.
The new framework for cooperation includes forming a parliamentary friendship committee and signing a memorandum of understanding to enhance legislative and administrative collaboration. They stressed the importance of addressing regional and international developments, particularly the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories, and the need for humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Sir Lindsay Hoyle acknowledged Bahrain as a key partner of the United Kingdom, commending its contributions to regional and global peace. He expressed the House of Commons' eagerness to strengthen parliamentary relations with Bahrain, emphasizing the solid foundations of mutual trust between the two nations.
