Bahrain and Portugal Unveil 27th Supplement of Security Council Repertoire

New york: The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of the Portuguese Republic and the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, organized a significant event today to unveil the 27th Supplement of the Repertoire of the Practice of the Security Council. The event, titled "Practice of the Security Council: Launch of the 27th Supplement of the Repertoire and of the Voting Records," marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to enhance transparency in the Security Council's functions.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the launch event witnessed participation from various United Nations entities, diplomatic missions, and subject matter experts. It introduced a new compilation of Security Council voting data along with an interactive dashboard designed for user convenience. This initiative aligns with the Kingdom of Bahrain's impending membership on the Security Council for the 2026-2027 term and reinforces a practice established by the United Nations for over seventy years.

Since its inception in 1952, the responsibility of preparing the repertoire has been entrusted to the Security Council Affairs Division of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs by the General Assembly. Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Rowaie, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, emphasized that the initiative reflects Bahrain's dedication to fostering effective engagement within the United Nations. He highlighted that the updated supplement and voting records serve as crucial resources that enhance public comprehension of the Security Council's operations. These tools are designed to provide member states with accessible and reliable information on Security Council practices.

Ambassador Al Rowaie further noted that the continuous updating of the repertoire and associated analytical tools not only supports research and analysis but also facilitates practical diplomacy. This initiative aids member states in preparing for negotiations and participating more effectively in discussions related to peace and security. It embodies the principles of multilateral diplomacy and underscores the United Nations Secretariat's role in promoting transparency and inclusivity in the Security Council's work.

During the event, participants received briefings on analytical outputs and guidance on utilizing the dataset and associated search tools. They were also introduced to the interactive dashboard, which consolidates Security Council voting records. This feature offers insights into voting patterns, decision-making trends, and visual representations that enhance transparency in the Council's operations.
