Laayoune: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, and Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates of Morocco, conducted a press conference in Morocco, following the conclusion of the 6th session of the Morocco-Bahrain Joint High Committee.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Bourita expressed pride in the strong relations between Bahrain and Morocco, emphasizing their deep historical ties and shared vision across various domains. He highlighted the relationship's foundation on absolute solidarity, citing Bahrain's support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara. Bourita noted that the joint committee meeting in Laayoune was an opportunity to follow up on agreements and memoranda of understanding, aiming to enhance relations and trade exchange in accordance with directives from both governments.
Minister Bourita announced the launch of a digital information platform to monitor cooperation between the two countries, describing the committee's session as a significant milestone in bilateral relations. He introduced a practical mechanism to oversee agreement implementations based on a unified framework between Rabat and Manama, ensuring mutual commitments are tracked. He also praised the coordination between the two nations in international forums, highlighting Bahrain as a key consulting partner for Morocco.
Dr. Al Zayani expressed his pleasure at being in Laayoune, a city symbolising the Moroccan Sahara, which saw the inauguration of Bahrain's Consulate General in 2020. He reiterated the strong ties between the nations and mentioned bilateral talks with Minister Bourita to discuss enhancing relations to an "integrative and solidarity-based partnership," aligning with the visions of their monarchs.
The discussions also covered regional developments and efforts to resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and consultation to address regional challenges and preserve security and stability. The joint committee session evaluated progress in bilateral cooperation and explored means to enhance it, establishing institutional mechanisms to facilitate collaboration and monitor agreement implementations.
The committee stressed the importance of continued coordination to unify positions in regional and international organisations, especially during Bahrain's upcoming tenure on the UN Security Council in 2026 and 2027. The focus will be on issues of common interest and supporting each country's candidacies within these organisations.
