Muharraq: The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) has announced the organisation of the "Heya Beya" event in celebration of Bahraini folk heritage on Monday, May 25, at 4:30 pm. The interactive programme will combine traditional music, folk storytelling, and activities inspired by environmental heritage in a family-friendly atmosphere that recalls the memory of place and revives cultural traditions associated with popular occasions deeply rooted in Bahraini identity. The event will take place on the seashore of Qal'at Bu Mahir in Muharraq.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the "Heya Beya" event will begin with an evening celebrating Bahraini folk heritage and the stories, customs, and traditions it preserves and renews.
The programme will also include a cultural storytelling segment presented by storyteller Baba Yaseen, who will share symbolic tales connected to folk identity and the historical relationship with the sea and the local environment.
The programme will further include traditional songs inspired by "Heya Beya", alongside segments highlighting the importance of safeguarding cultural identity and promoting environmental awareness, as well as reflective moments connected to the Day of Arafah and Eid Al Adha, embodying the spiritual and social values deeply rooted in Bahraini culture and reflecting the community's strong connection to its human and folk heritage.
The coastal walk at Qal'at Bu Mahir will begin at 5:30 pm, accompanied by a traditional folk band performing folk chants and songs along the shoreline, in a scene that recalls elements of Bahrain's heritage memory and offers children and families an interactive experience bringing them closer to authentic Bahraini heritage and its inherited cultural and social meanings.
The event comes as part of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities' efforts to safeguard intangible cultural heritage and strengthen younger generations' connection to folk customs and traditions that form an integral part of the national identity, while highlighting the human and aesthetic values that reflect the depth of Bahrain's heritage memory.
