At Least 18 Migrants Die in Boat Tragedy South of Crete

Crete: At least 18 migrants lost their lives when an inflatable boat capsized in the Mediterranean Sea, south of the island of Crete, Greek authorities reported on Saturday. Two individuals were rescued from the vessel, and a search operation for more survivors is underway.

According to Bahrain News Agency, a passing Turkish merchant ship discovered the half-sunken boat, prompting the rescue efforts. Authorities have yet to determine the boat's point of origin.

The rescue operation involves multiple assets, including a ship and a plane from the European border agency Frontex, a Greek Coast Guard helicopter, and three merchant vessels. These efforts highlight the ongoing challenges and risks faced by migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea.
