At Least 164 Killed in Pakistan Floods Over 24 Hours

Islamabad: Pakistani authorities reported that at least 164 people were killed in the past 24 hours as heavy rains struck the country's north, bringing the death toll from the rainy season, which began in late June, to around 500.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said the mountainous province accounted for 150 of the deaths. Additionally, nine fatalities were reported in the Pakistani-administered part of Kashmir, and five in the northern tourist region of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan experiences heavy monsoon rains annually, causing significant loss of life and property, particularly in mountainous and rural areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
