Arab League reiterates support for Lebanon

The Arab League firmly stands with Lebanon, said the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, on Wednesday, as Lebanon faces threats and challenges on the southern front.

Following a meeting with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Zaki, in a press statement, pointed to the tension in the region and how it negatively affects Lebanon.

The absence of a president is a prominent underlying cause of the political issues, which is disabling much of the country, said Zaki.

His visit was to discuss the presidential vacancy with all concerned parties, the worsening situation in the south due to the war, and ways to stop it.

He met with various political figures and parliamentary blocs for two main reasons: finding a solution for the presidential vacancy and addressing the conflict in the south.

Lebanese political groups have been in disagreement on choosing a leader, as the parliament has failed to elect a president since October 2022.
