Arab League: Pleading sent to ICC on Israeli occupation in Palestine

The Arab League announced Thursday delivering a copy of its written pleading to the International Criminal Court (ICC), within the framework of giving a legal opinion about the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, and its impacts, and legal repercussions.

The ICC looks into this topic in implementation of a UN General Assembly resolution, the League said in a statement, noting that it took it upon itself to prepare written pleadings based on high-level legal experts and a direct follow-up of Secretary General Ahmad Aboul-Gheit.

The pleading included the sufferings of Palestinian people, and Israel’s settlement, its occupation of Palestinian territories as well as discrimination, apartheid, and systematized violations of international law and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, it indicated.

Struggle legally for this issue is important to consolidate Palestinians’ rights and hold legally and morally Israel accountable for this, it said.

A number of Arab and friendly countries will submit written pleadings in support of Palestine to refute the Israeli claims, according to the statement.
