An academic conference on ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ in Spain


The Sheikh Zayed Book Award, organized by the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, held an academic conference on the great influence of ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ in Spain, in cooperation with the ‘House Arab’ Foundation in Madrid, with the participation of An elite group of academic speakers and specialists in the Arabic language and literature.

The conference, which was held under the title ‘One Thousand and One Nights: A Journey Through Time and Space from Abu Dhabi to Madrid, via Tokyo and London,’ aims to strengthen cooperation relations between the Sheikh Zayed Book Award and the Arab House Foundation, build bridges of communication between the Arab and Spanish cultures, and enhance dialogue and understanding between cultures from all over the world.

The conference was attended by a delegation from the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, which included Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, Secretary General of
the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, and Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Naqbi, Director of the Literary Awards Department at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre.

The conference also witnessed the participation of a number of important figures and an elite group of Arab and Spanish academics, writers, and authors.

Saud Abdul Aziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: ‘Our cooperation with the Arab House Foundation in Madrid to hold the ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ conference comes within the efforts of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and its endeavors to hold international conferences, events and activities that will bring together different peoples and cultures around the world, build bridges of dialogue based on tolerance, understanding, respect and acceptance of the culture of others. Through these conferences, we also seek to promote and disseminate the Arabic language and introduce its literature, heritage, and cultural and civilizational legacy.’

For his part, Dr. Ali bin
Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Center for the Arabic Language, Secretary-General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, said: ‘The Sheikh Zayed Book Award seeks to consolidate the values of tolerance, dialogue and mutual cooperation between the various cultures and peoples of the world and to enrich the local and global cultural scene. Spain is the first stop of the conference, followed by two other stops in Japan and the United Kingdom as part of efforts related to promoting and disseminating Arab culture at the international level.
