AMMAN, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi Tuesday called on the international community to live up to its due responsibility towards Syrian refugees in Jordan and other host countries.
Safadi made the remark while meeting with Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas in Amman, where they discussed ways of promoting ties between Jordan and the EU, and the Syrian refugee crisis, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
He sounded the alarm about dwindling international support for refugees, host countries and organizations that support refugees and host communities.
However, the Jordanian foreign minister spoke highly of the EU for supporting Jordan’s efforts in providing services to Syrian refugees, underlining that it is essential to keep cooperation between donor countries and host countries to ensure a decent living for refugees.
For his part, Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas commended Jordan’s “pioneering” role in hosting refugees and providing
them with decent livelihood.
