Ambassador affirms Bahrain’s keenness to strengthen strategic partnership with Morocco

Khalid bin Salman Al-Musallam, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Morocco, has affirmed the kingdom’s constant keenness to strengthen its strategic partnership with Morocco at all levels to benefit the two countries, and meet their aspirations for a stable and prosperous region, as well as a world in which security, peace, progress and prosperity prevail.

In an opinion piece published on the Hespress website on Morocco’s celebrations of the Throne Day and the 24th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s enthronement, the ambassador indicated that the two kingdoms are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, in light of the great interest of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco in strengthening the robust deep-rooted bilateral ties to serve the two countries and their peoples.

Ambassador Al-Musallam reiterated Bahrain’s firm stance in support of the Moroccanity of the Sahara, and for Morocco’s territorial integrity.

In this regard, he said that HM King Hamad had ordered the opening of a Bahrain Consulate General in the city of El-Ayoun on December 14, 2020, making the kingdom among the first countries to take such a political step that confirms Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, and the legitimacy of the measures it takes there.

In the article, the envoy also highlighted the efforts made by the two countries to bolster their relations, citing the establishment of a high joint committee in 2000, under the chairmanship of the two countries’ foreign ministers.

He indicated that the committee convenes regularly to assess the progress of bilateral ties and discuss ways to further develop them, within the framework of the policies adopted by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He added that over 60 agreements and memoranda of understanding have been signed between the two countries on the sidelines of the panel’s meetings, the latest of which was in January 2023.

Ambassador Al-Musallam added that the two countries are keen to promote the values of tolerance, dialogue and peace globally, citing their similar diplomatic visions calling for adopting dialogue as the best means to resolve regional and international disputes and conflicts peacefully.

The two kingdoms always lead the way in hosting and taking part in conferences that call for peaceful solutions, such as the US State Department’s conference on religious freedom and the Parliamentary Conference on Interfaith Dialogue, he said, adding that they are also keen to host religious leaders to consolidate such lofty values and concepts.

He also cited Bahrain’s unwavering support for the efforts exerted by HM King Mohammed VI, the Al-Quds Committee Chairman, to preserve Jerusalem’s civilisational identity and maintain its status as a symbol of tolerance and coexistence among the various monotheistic religions.
