Amb. Al-Najem: China, Kuwait bond in petrochemical industry’s cooperation

BEIJING, The State of Kuwait and China have freshly established cooperation in the petrochemical field, said the Kuwaiti Ambassador to China Jassem Al-Najem.

This statement came to KUNA on the occasion of inaugurating an office of the EQUATE Petrochemical Company in the city of Shanghai. This step mirrors keenness and concern of the Kuwaiti oil companies in the Chinese market, he added.

The envoy affirmed that bolstering the China-Kuwait partnership would pave the way for broader economic cooperation between the two countries.

Kuwait was the first country in the Middle East to sign the “belt and road” initiative in 2013.

He affirmed that the close relations between China and Kuwait date to 50 years ago, noting that these ties had been capped with the landmark visit by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Asian nation last September. The two sides had agreed during the visit on cementing the cooperation and signed a number of memoranda of understanding in various sectors.

EQUATE office’s inauguration ceremony was attended by the State of Kuwait General Consul in Shanghai, Anas Maarefi, the head of the Public Investment Authority in China Abdulrazzaq Al-Buaijan, Director General of the Glycol Section at EQUATE, Ahmad Al-Saleh, and a number of executives and officials.

Volume of the trade exchanges between Kuwait and China stands at more than USD 22.4 billion.
