Alba Debuts Electric AlF3 Feeding Vehicle in Potlines

Manama: In a forward step towards its ambitious decarbonisation goals, Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the world's largest aluminium smelter on a single site, is embarking on a pilot programme for an electric, battery-powered Aluminium Fluoride (AlF3) feeding vehicle. This innovative step, utilising a cutting-edge vehicle from Techmo Car S.p.A., is currently being evaluated in Reduction Lines 4, 5, and 6.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Alba will analyse the data and performance of this trial vehicle to inform its decision on a potential fleet-wide adoption of electric AlF3 feeding vehicles. This move underscores Alba's commitment to sustainable operations and aligns perfectly with its overarching Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy.

Ali Al Baqali, Alba's Chief Executive Officer, highlighted that the initiative to test electric AlF3 feeding vehicles on the reduction lines is a proactive step toward reducing environmental impact. He expressed confidence in the trial's positive outcomes, reinforcing Alba's dedication to sustainability. He emphasised that even small actions contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable future and expressed pride in collaborating with innovative industry leaders like Techmo, who share the same vision for a greener future.

Massimo Zannini, Managing Director of Techmo Car S.p.A., expressed pride in continuing the company's longstanding partnership with Alba through this innovative initiative. He emphasised that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable technologies in the aluminium industry. Zannini noted that the electric AlF3 feeding vehicle is expected to improve operational efficiency while playing a key role in Alba's decarbonisation efforts. He also expressed optimism for a successful trial and looked forward to future collaboration opportunities with Alba.

This initiative builds upon Alba's existing sustainability efforts. Since 2023, the Company has successfully deployed solar-electric powered industrial Personnel Carriers (PCs) across its premises. Furthermore, three strategically located solar charging stations equipped with advanced battery storage systems are operational at the car park areas of Alba's Power Stations.

Based in Italy, Techmo Car S.p.A. is a leader in the engineering and production of high-end, tailor-made, mobile and stationary equipment for the aluminium industry.
