Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, confirmed today, Friday, that the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, in its third edition, will be held in Baghdad this year.

Al-Sahaf said, in a statement received by the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA), that “at the invitation of French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fouad Hussein visited France and met during the visit with Colonna at her workplace.”

He added, “The focus of the meeting was the discussion on the third Baghdad Conference on Partnership and Development, which is scheduled to be held in the capital, Baghdad, during the current year,” noting that “Colona expressed her thanks to the Minister for this visit and the opportunity to talk about the organizational aspects and the content of the proposed topics on the conference’s agenda.”

Al-Sahhaf pointed out, “The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Baghdad conference is important not only for Iraq but for the entire region, because it will focus on economic partnership because Iraq believes that economic interests lead to creating a positive climate of understanding and thus achieving security for all, especially since the conference will be held in light of the positive conditions in the region,” pointing to “the important role played by France in order to support economic partnerships between the countries of the region.”

For his part, Colonna made it clear that France is keen to hold the conference in Baghdad, praising the pivotal role of Iraq in creating the appropriate conditions for holding the conference, which will reflect positively on the stability of the region.
