Manama: Bahraini table tennis player Ali Hussain Al Hashemi won two medals at the WTT Youth Contender Tashkent tournament in Uzbekistan, claiming silver in the Under-11 category and bronze in the Under-13 competition. According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Hashemi received his medals from Mukaddasova Gavharkhon, Secretary General of the Uzbekistan Table Tennis Federation (UTTF) and tournament director. He finished runner-up in the Under-11 event after losing 3-0 to Uzbekistan's Amir Sharif, the world No. 8 in the age category, in the final. Al Hashemi delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament, advancing through the group stage and knockout rounds with victories over the world No. 6 and world No. 21-ranked players. Al Hashemi is considered one of Bahrain's most promising young table tennis talents. He is a graduate of the Khalid bin Hamad Golden Generation Initiative, a talent development programme supported by the General Sports Authority that identifies and nurtures promising young athle tes across a range of sports.
