Al-Bayda Medical Center warns of an environmental disaster resulting from the decomposition of the bodies of flood victims.

Director of the Al-Bayda Center and Head of the Health Emergency Committee in Al-Bayda, Dr. Abdul Rahim Maziq, warned on Thursday of an environmental disaster more severe than the catastrophe of torrents and floods.

Maziq said – in a statement – that the current danger lies in water-borne diseases, and diseases that will be transmitted as a result of the decomposition of corpses.

The director of the Al-Bayda Center called for providing vaccinations to local rescue teams urgently, and providing vaccinations for residents of the affected areas, whether the elderly, men, women, and children.

Maziq advised the people of the city and the surrounding areas that were struck by torrents and floods to use bottled drinking water and warned against drinking water from the city’s former sources due to its contamination.

He appealed to governments and specialized international organizations to urgently provide these needs and take the issue seriously, pointing out that the focus must be on raising awareness of the upcoming danger through various media in order to preserve the lives of citizens.
