Agriculture Minister Highlights Progress on Carbon Neutrality, Green Expansion Plans

Manama: Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, emphasised that national efforts are progressing rapidly to implement the initiatives of the National Action Plan for carbon neutrality, announced by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He noted that the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, has enhanced the efficiency of environmental initiatives, ensured the sustainability of natural resources, and accelerated the afforestation plan, supporting the national target to expand Bahrain’s green cover and double the number of trees by 2035.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Minister Al Mubarak commended the oversight of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa on the afforestation plan and the “Bahrain Mangrove” initiative, highlighting the launch of the second phase targeting 100,000 Ghaf trees, which are resilient to varying climatic conditions, to improve ecological balance and the urban landscape across the Kingdom.

He also expressed appreciation to the United Arab Emirates for donating Ghaf trees to support this second phase, commending the UAE Embassy in Bahrain and the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment for advancing joint efforts in environmental sustainability and climate action, reinforcing bilateral cooperation.

On his part, Fahad Mohammed Salem bin Kardous Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, emphasised that the initiative reflects the strong ties between the two countries, promotes sustainable development and environmental cooperation, and underscores continued coordination to achieve shared priorities and strengthen the strategic partnership.
