Manama: A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck southern Iran today, according to the UAE National Centre of Meteorology’s National Seismic Network.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported that the quake occurred at 14:10 UAE time, at a depth of 10 kilometres near the city of Kuh Sefid in Kerman Province, southeastern Iran.
Iranian authorities confirmed that there were no reports of casualties or material damage. The tremor was not felt in neighbouring Gulf countries.
Iran lies on a major seismic fault line and frequently experiences earthquakes. The same area was hit by a 5.5-magnitude quake in May with no significant impact.
