Nouakchott: Mauritania's Coast Guard announced that 49 irregular migrants had died and about 100 others were missing after a boat carrying around 160 people sank off the coast of Nouakchott.
According to Bahrain News Agency, only 17 people were rescued, while the bodies of the victims were washed ashore. Authorities have described this as one of the worst incidents in the region in recent years.
